Connect your website
Your website is the first thing Smarkly reads, and almost everything else depends on it. Before you connect it, Smarkly knows nothing about your company. After, it has your own words to work from.
What happens when you connect it
You give Smarkly your web address. It visits your site, reads the pages it can find, and produces three things:
A picture of how you write. Tone, sentence rhythm, the words you reach for and the ones you avoid. This becomes your brand voice, and you can edit any of it.
A list of facts about your business, taken from what your site actually says. Pricing, what you offer, credentials, who you serve. These go into your confirmed truths, and drafts are allowed to state them because you already stated them publicly.
A first draft of who you sell to. One audience profile, built from how your site describes its customers.
The whole thing usually takes under a minute. You do not have to wait on the page.

What to give it
Use the address people actually land on. If your site lives at www.yourcompany.com, give it that rather than a bare yourcompany.com, and if you have a marketing site and an app on separate addresses, the marketing site is the one to connect.
A site behind a login will not work. Smarkly reads your site the way a visitor does, so anything a visitor cannot reach is invisible to it too.

When the scan comes back thin
Sometimes Smarkly finds only a page or two. A few common reasons:
Your site renders its content in the browser rather than serving it as HTML. Some website builders do this by default.
Your pages are not linked from anywhere Smarkly can follow, or your sitemap is missing.
The site is genuinely small, which is fine and common for a new company.
You will see this on the dashboard as a setup step that does not tick itself: Facts about your business, confirmed. If that step stays open, the scan read your site but found nothing it could quote. Drafts will still work, but they will talk in general terms, because there are no specifics to use yet.
The fix is to add a few facts yourself. Open Company Profile → Company Overview and write them in plain sentences. Three or four real specifics do more for your drafts than a dozen vague ones.
Changing your website later
The business owner can point Smarkly at a different address, and it will rescan. How often you can do that depends on your plan, and there is a monthly automatic rescan that picks up changes without you asking.
If you are on a trial, manual rescans are not included. The automatic one still runs.

What Smarkly will not do with your site
It will not invent facts that are not on your pages. If your site never says you are SOC 2 compliant, no draft will say it either, no matter how the request is phrased.
It will not publish anything or change your site. The connection is read-only.
It will not treat comparisons and performance figures as settled. If your site says you are faster than a named competitor, or quotes a 99.8% delivery rate, that goes into a review queue rather than straight into your confirmed truths. Those claims are checkable, they go stale, and asserting them on your behalf is not a decision Smarkly should make for you.
Next
Once the scan finishes, go and look at what it found. Start with the facts it read from your site, because that is where a wrong impression is cheapest to correct.
